Fen Stone
Overview:
A curious stone that was unearthed within the Withered Fen during an archeological dig east of Kadima in ruins thought to be of Icari origin. Representatives from the Ashmark Conservatory funded and spearheaded the dig and were credited with the wonderous find. Though no distinct magical properties were discovered within the stone, it's size, shape, and captivating green glow made it an instant hit with the nobility of Kadima, quickly gaining a place in the The Grand Gallery Museum of Wonders, curated by Alda Arkin. A hasty exhibit with other precious gems from the Withered Fen was planned with a fundraising gala to show off it's prized jewel.
After Cassee Fenwick first heard about the gem and started doing some research, she found mentions in ancient Icari tomes that mentioned a gem that matched the Fen Stone's description also referring to it, in a loose translation, as an "egg"--potentially due to it's shape. After further research she found other mentions to an egg, that told of massive death and destruction of Icari cities. After being ignored when she brought her findings to her peers at the Conservatory, she took matters into her own hands and attempted to steal the Fen Stone but was caught and summarily fired, only avoiding prison due to Headmaster Verin Thallix's intervention.
Campaign:
- Cassee sought out the party's help to retrieve the Fen Stone so that she could encase it in a protective wards that would, in theory, render it safe. She theorized that some of the weird events happening in town, such as the storm, were caused, or at least amplified, by the stone.
- The party, after discovering it's whereabouts in a flooded storage unit of Alda Arkin, decided to retrieve it before the gala the next day. The party was able to find and take the stone, but not before it manipulated and controlled the environment and Pale Assembly skeletons to protect itself from their intervention. It also, in a desperate attempt showed them hallucinations, though their intention was currently unclear. Shorty after, Cassee and Kal sealed the stone in the box and the party took it with them.
